Monday! Monday! Can't trust that day . . .

Why is it that it is so hard to get out of bed on Monday morning?

Theoretically, getting up and out of the bed on a Monday should be no easier and no harder than any other morning, but unfortunately, even though my brain knows and accepts this logic, it still chooses to rebel, and push my internal snooze button.

So, it is with sleepy eyes, that I am facing this Monday.  Sleepy eyes and no coffee as of yet. (Hubby forgot to push the brew button for my coffee.  Conveniently, he remembered to push the brew button for his side.  Hmmmmm!)  I hope this is not foreshadowing.

Despite these setbacks, I shall forge ahead in my Not Me! Monday post. (A Not Me! Monday is a post idea made famous by the fabulous blogger, MckMama.  It is where you are brutally honest and own up to all of the crazy things that you did in the previous week.)  It is almost as good as a dose of therapy for me to divulge the past week's insanity, so I must.

Come along for the ride, if you dare!

On this past rainy Saturday morning, it was not me that "forgot" to go to E's school parade.  Clearly, I would have remembered that the preschool was marching in the soggy parade, and I would have gladly geared up all three of the kiddies to be possibly doused for the 1.5 mile parade route.  And when E remembered all by himself, I would not have told an outright fib about parades being canceled due to rain.  I would have been honest with E and explained that mommies don't like to mix kiddies and rain for prolonged periods of time.  Mixing kiddies and rain is like shaking up a soda bottle.  It seems like fun if you give the exploding bottle to someone else, but if you are standing, holding the exploding soda yourself . . . it stinks.  Same with kiddies and rain.  Plain and simple.

It was not hubby and me that decided that since the basement remodel was on an indefinite hold until we figure out the water problem, we would start to tackle the kitchen.  We did not rip out partial walls and part of the flooring either.  Nope!  Not us!  We would have waited patiently for one project to be completed before we began the next project.  That is only logical, and 2 college educated people should be full of logic.  Right?  Right!  Clearly, it was not us that was eagerly planning and anticipating a new kitchen (somewhere down the road).  That would just be crazy!

It was not me that attended Ab's school's end of the year program in my sweats from the gym.  Clearly, I would have actually showered before attending the program instead of just doing an armpit sniff check and then adding some more deodorant for good measure.   I would have taken more time with my appearance seeing as how I would meet up with each and every parent and teacher from the PTA.  I would not have rationalized with myself that everyone was there to see the students perform and not to check out the moms in the crowd.  No way that that could have been me!  Ridiculous!

It couldn't have been me that found a utility bill in the back of my car (under socks, a sweatshirt, a crumpled napkin, 2 melted crayons, and a sippy cup that needed to be condemned) that should have been mailed two weeks ago.

It also was not me that while doing laundry, purposely matched the last two remaining socks together, even though clearly one was navy blue and one was black.  No way would I allow my hubby to wear non-matching socks even though no one sees them under his dress pants.  Impossible!

And finally, I do not have a safety pin currently holding my bra together.  I would invest the time and effort to find a new bra to support the old girls.  It's the least that I would do for such hard working members of the family.

There.  That's better.

Coffee's done and I have purged my craziness.

Onto my Monday!

Good Morning!

Dear Lady ( in the white 4 door sedan on Dorothy Lane at 9:00 am),

It was really lovely to share the road with you this morning.  The sun was shining, the tunes were grooving, and all in all, a wonderful day was beginning.  Thank you for adding your special something to my already happy morning.

You see, I was totally unprepared for what I saw when I glanced over at you this a.m.  While we were at the stop light, I turned my head to check out you and your vehicle.  I know that I am supposed to keep my eyes on the road, but I find that it is just so much nicer to be a little sociable and smile at the driver next to you.  Don't you?  You must feel the same way as I do, because you did give me a half grin back, after you completed your chore.

What chore you may inquire?

Well . . .  I didn't catch you eating your breakfast, and no, I did not catch you doing your morning grooming.  Those, I would have understood.  In fact, I am guilty of both eating and applying make up while I drive.  Frequently, you may catch me munching on a granola bar or painting on mascara at a stop light.  But, unfortunately, thus far in my many years of life (Did you think I would tell you my age?  Shame on you!), I have never seen anyone accomplish what you have accomplished this morning while you were behind the driver's wheel. You really must be gifted and talented.  Your mother must be so proud.

So, thank you again for the half hearted grin after you finished spitting out your toothpaste.  Your good morning salute to me while holding your manual toothbrush, your dixie spit cup, and the steering wheel were really the highlights to my morning commute.  I am in awe of your efficiency.  Combining brushing your teeth and driving?  What a novel idea!  What will you accomplish next?  Will you be like the lady that was recently arrested here that was breastfeeding her infant while driving?  She too is a master of efficiency.  I am truly amazed.

So thank you again.   I just thought that you should know that you made my day.

Sincerely,
Annie

Fun Times with Kiddies

Spent the evening at the ball park last night.  Tell me that E isn't the cutest little ballplayer you have ever seen.  C'mon.  Tell me.  I dare you!

And of course, who could leave out the ballplayer's fashionista sister.  Here she is striking her pose.  Love the "C'mon mom" grin!  Probably one of the first of many.

And, last but not least, our little angel/ devil (depending on the exact moment).  She looks up to something, doesn't she?  She was!  She was crunching up crackers into teeny, tiny, itsy, bitsy pieces and depositing them on my living room floor.   I can only assume that the feel and the sounds of the destruction were just too much fun for her.  (I know that they were oh so much fun for me to clean up later!)

Can you tell that I am having fun with my new camera?

Deep Thoughts

I read a bumper sticker the other day.  It said, "Inside every old person is a young person."

If that is true . . .

does it mean that I can give my husband's young person inside of his old person a time out?

Hmmmm.

Deep thoughts.  Gotta love 'em.

Hurts So Good

I visited my trainer today.

My arms hurt so badly that I can barely balance them on the desk to type this post.

My legs hurt so badly that when I squatted down to use the toilet, it occurred to me that I may have to call to one of the kiddies to help me to stand up again.

My ab muscles hurt so badly that I almost thought that it might be monthly cramping, until I remembered the hundreds of crunches that I did this morning.

I visited my trainer today.

And I feel fabulous!

The Surprise of a Lifetime

My hubby surprises me rarely.

He is a creature of routine.  His mornings consist of his alarm, coffee, newspaper and coffee, omelet making, bathroom business, ironing clothes, and cleaning the kitchen.  In that exact order.  Every morning. Day after day.  Week after week.  Sometimes if I wake up early and try to make myself breakfast or use our one bathroom, inevitably I mess up his routine.  This always amuses me.  This rarely amuses him.

Because of his routine-like habits, I usually know what to expect from hubby, whether in word or in deed.  That's why I was so taken back at our date last night.

Last night, we ventured out (without kiddies) for a little fun at a local bar.  They have great wings (hubby's fave!) and cold beer, a good combination in my book.  On Mondays, they also have Trivia where customers compete against each other to win a free appetizer or free pitcher of beer.  Free food or drink really spurs competition,  and we enjoyed trying to outsmart the other patrons on questions like, "According to Papua New Guinea cannibals, which Hormel lunch meat tastes the most like human flesh?"  Answer: Spam (Which we got correct!  And, yes, I know that that is gross, and no, I have no idea why hubby and I have that useless knowledge residing in our brain.)

In between rounds, hubby said, "I really had a hard time falling asleep last night."

As I licked hot sauce off my fingers I prompted, "Really?  Why?"

"Hmmmm.  I don't know,"  he paused.  "All I do know is that I was watching this movie where a guy gets amnesia and then forgets about his family."

Intrigued, I questioned, "What movie?"

"I don't know the name.  After he forgets his family, he gets with another lady and her sons.  The lady was played by Pam Dawber, and she looked hot . . ."

I interrupted, "Pam Dawber?  Mork and Mindy, Pam Dawber? Are you sure it wasn't Pam Anderson?"  I teased.

"Yes, I am sure.  Pam Dawber.  Mork and Mindy. Her.  Well, she . . ."

I had to interrupt again.  "Pam Dawber is not hot."

He shot right back, "Well in this movie she was.  Now stop interrupting and listen."

I busied myself with eating and kept quiet.

"Well, after he had proposed marriage to the hot, Pam Dawber,"  he emphasized sarcastically, "suddenly, he gets his memory back and remembers his first family."

I waited for him and when he was quiet, I asked, "And?  What then?"

"Well, it shook me up.  The man decided to go back to his first family even though he was really in love with Pam.  And even if he wasn't in love with her, Pam was much hotter.  He definitely should have picked her."

I chuckled at his man logic, that the hottest woman should always win, and said, "Hon.  What were you watching?  It sounds like  . . . well . . . crap."

And that's when he did it.

He surprised me.

"Well . . ."  he started, and then he looked sheepishly down at his plate.

"Well what?" I asked pointedly.  I was the cat and the curiosity was killing me!

"Well, I don't know what the name of the movie was, but . . ." he trailed off.

"But what?  I couldn't hear you, " I asked.

"Well, it was on LMN."

"LMN?"

"Yes."

"You couldn't sleep last night because you were up watching the Lifetime Movie Network?!"
I asked incredulously.

"Well . . . yeah."

You could have just pushed me over with your pinkie.  I was shocked!  Here was my hubby, my sports guy, my guy that loves, loves, loves, shoot 'em up action packed thrillers admitting that a Lifetime movie got to him.

I couldn't believe it.

I started first with a slight giggle, and as my shoulders began to shake, that giggle turned to an outright laugh, and finally I was in hysterics.  It was just too funny.

"Hon, " I said through my giggles, "I love that you watch the Lifetime Movie Network after I am cashed out for the night."

He smiled, realizing that I was teasing him, and then countered, "So I guess I shouldn't tell you that I stayed awake to watch Message in a Bottle after that?!?"

That little tidbit put me over the edge.  LMN and Message in a Bottle?!?!?

My hubby was a closet sap! ( A fact that I had suspected ever since he had cried like a baby during our entire wedding ceremony.)

We laughed and laughed together at his latent sappiness as we finished our trivia round.

It was a great date, which wasn't surprising.

***Thanks hubby.  I  love that after 9 years . . . I still never know what to expect from you!

Art Reflects Life

Last Friday, I had the privilege to go to a Mother's Day Tea in Ab's classroom.  We dined on lemonade, strawberries, and Pepperidge Farm Milano cookies (At this rate, I will never lose these last 5 pounds.) The kiddies sang all the moms a song, then each kiddie read his or her mom an original poem. ( Of course, my little kiddie's was the best, although I am completely and utterly biased. ) Anyway, along with the lovely poems, each mommy's angel drew a picture of his or her mom.  Here is my masterpiece!

And here is what I actually looked like on that day.

The resemblance is uncanny isn't it?

I especially like that dear, sweet Ab included my lovely age spot that resides on my left cheek.  You know, that brownie-colored liver spot that is compliments of hours and hours in the sunshine without a lick of sunscreen.  The one that, if I had some spare cash, I would have lasered completely off lickety split.  That one!  When I commented on her fabulous attention to detail, she beamed, and then explained, "Well, I do look at you a lot!"  True.  True.
All I know is that my portrait is a keeper and that Ab's performance, poem, and artwork brought me to tears (even if some of them were through laughter).

At least my tiny fashionista thought to include an attractive green choker for her mom in her portrait.  She knows that I love, love, love to accessorize.

What woman doesn't?

After all, I daily try to match my doo rag hair bandana to my workout sweatpants. Accessorizing is the least that I can do for my fellow gym patrons.

I'm just thoughtful like that.
